Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone treatment is a massage therapy that uses smooth, heated basalt stones which are placed on specific key parts of the client’s body to promote deep relaxation, creating sensations of comfort and warmth. The combination of massage, deep heat and essential oils allows for a highly relaxing and beneficial treatment. The basalt stones used are a form of black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat well which enables a deeply soothing, relaxing form of massage.

The Treatment

At the beginning of your session details of your medical history and lifestyle will be taken
During the massage, your body will remain fully covered with towels except for the head and the specific area that is being worked on. The temperature, level of lighting and music in the room can be adjusted to ensure your comfort.

The stones:

Stones used for the treatment are smooth, volcanic basalt rocks from Chilean Andes. They vary in colour from grey and greyish green to almost black. During the treatment the temperature of the stones is constantly monitored and kept around 43C – 60C.

How does it work:

Simple application of hot stones to the skin is beneficial but the effects are intensified when gentle pressure and massage are used.

The heat energy radiating from the stones is carried by the blood into the deeper layers of the body stimulating the circulatory system and metabolic processes.

The longer the warm stones stay on the body, the deeper the penetration of the muscle tissue and joints. The heat results in the increased blood flow causing vasodilatation (widening) of the blood vessels. This in turn allows for an improved delivery of nutrients and removal of waste products (detoxification) from the various parts and tissues of the body. The presence of red and white blood cells increases and the raised levels of oxygen in the area improve cell metabolism by 10 – 15%.
